Happy Whatever You're Celebrating!
A few weeks ago I let the battery run down and had to recharge it. Fo about a week I got a trouble message to the efeect that I needed to re-set my system. Before I could do that th emessage went away. The gas mileage, on the other hand, dropped by about a third.
I had the dealer check it out and he found a bad exhaust manifold gasket which apparently burned out the catalytic converter. The cat was under warranty; the gasket was not as I'm at 60000+ miles.
My mileage still s*cks. Any thoughts from the brain trust?
Thanks.
Steve

They should have reset all the adaptors (essentially starting the car at "0")

Steve you maybe experiencing a failed fuel pressure sensor that has just become a recall. Like most of the sensors that fail, the computer runs the car in the "limp home mode". Resulting in less fuel economy. Check for codes with the OBD11 reader. I discussed it in the next 3-4 pages. Also I talked about how the catalytic converters are being removed prematurely for their platinum scrap value and that Volvo will pay even if independent garages change the pressure sensor.

Curiouser and curiouser! The warm front came through right behind the New Year. After the car sat for a couple of days at 50 degrees +, my mileage came back. I jumped back to 28-ish from 17-18. Something must have frozen.
Anyway, Winter came roaring back and the mileage is headed for the basement again. Any thoughts on what's not agreeing with freezing temperatures?
Thanks again.

Steve, I'm hesitant to even try to speculate, until that recall has been done. Fuel pressure sensor on the non turbo V models (2004). Part #8699448. It cost $249.72 plus installation. If it is not working, I assume the gas pump doesn't slow down, reduce pressure, and reduce the amount of fuel injected into the volume of air demanded. Thus poor gas mileage.

Thanks. Do you know if the recall covers turbo engines as well? (I guess I could just call the dealer in the morning.)
I'll let everyone know what happens.

Steve, I don't think it covers turbo models. Judging from your prior experiences, I would firstly reboot the computer by disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes. Also I would read the OBD11 for codes before, and 100 miles after the reboot. I understand that a reader can label a part "weak", and that might head us in the right direction. But one or even two reboots won't hurt. (radio code?)
