Did some stuff on the S60

16t is installed and it runs pretty well! I need to figure out why it won't move now, I have a feeling the passenger side axle isn't seated. The PO told me the transmission just randomly stopped working, and that was that. He towed it home and parked it, then it sat until I bought it.

The car rolls in park and makes a little grind when I put the shifter back in park. Doesn't move in any gear. Interestingly enough, the passenger outer CV boot is torn and the axle seal is leaking. I'll investigate further tomorrow.

Yesterday -- Brother and I completed delta link replacement (finished both sides as opposed to only one) and replaced rear brake pads on the '99 V70. Pads were shot. Delta link went really well since we made all our mistakes (or should I say maximized our learning opportunities?) a few weeks ago on the passenger side.

Used my T5 as An anchor to drop a dead 35 foot pine between mine and neighbors houses,

Worked well.

Got the S60 driving. PO was obviously a pro mechanic, because the transmission that magically failed is fine! Turned out the passenger side axle was broken, which would explain the grinding it made when I put the shifter in park as well as the fact that the car would roll in park.
Took it up and down the street and it rides surprisingly well considering the control arms, struts, tie rods, etc. are totally shot.

I'll have to post pics of the old axle shortly. It totally separated right near where it goes into the transmission. Plus the inner CV joint fell right apart when I went to pull it out, so that didn't help.

Boy do I feel like an idiot. Had grumbles and occasional clunk coming from, what I was sure, the left front of my 98 V70. Absolutely not allowed to work on cars at the apartment and I had no record of ball joints (or control arms) ever being replaced so I took it to the local independent. While waiting for them to come out and get my car, for no reason I can explain, I went around the car touching wheels. Left rear was H O T! This changes everything. Turns out that the ball joints were fine but the ceramic had fallen off the parking brake. Still odd that from inside the car I was sure the noise was coming from the front. (You would think, at the very least, I'd have gotten a P0455 idiot light.)

Had a productive session working on the instrument cluster. Correct my mileage and replaced the tiny broken gear. I'm alalsalalso worried I may have damaged some other gear during the repair. Only time will tell.

While I was in there I decided to change out the 4 main bulbs and the 2 smaller bulbs for the info display.

Which dash lights in the VDO cluster are supposed to have bulbs? When pulling the cluster I noticed 4 slots have no bulbs. One is labelled TRACS, which I don't have so not worried. Another is the "LOW OIL LEVEL". There is one blank and the last one is a symbol I have never seen before.

Thats the heated rear third seat indicator. It looks just like the CAT overheat warning on earlier cars.
