TCV Upgrade on a 95" 850 T5 wagon

How to go faster, stop quicker, and turn harder. Chips, exhaust, larger turbos, bigger/slotted/drilled rotors, high performance brake pads, manual boost controllers, performance shocks/struts/springs, airbox mods and more! Also discussion on HID and Xenon lights, aftermarket foglights and other exterior lighting.

TCV Upgrade on a 95" 850 T5 wagon

Post by OBLIVIOUS »

Hello,

Does anyone know a good alternative to the stock TCV for a 95 850 t5?

I'm currently running a tune that turns up the boost to 1 to 1.2 bar and I've noticed that lately the boost levels have been uneven, and I'm sure that the stock TCV has had enough of it.

I've considered getting IPD's HD TCV but, it's very expensive, and I've read that it's not as good as IPD sets it out to be, so my opinion on that is currently a bit wobbly.

I could always get another stock TCV but, I don't want to buy one that'll just break again.

So, what other options do I have?

Thanks!

over at the performance tuning forum there is a diy for the same ipd unit for 25 bucks. Just doesn't have the sticker. but I haven't used it.
dont over look your compressor bypass diaphragm and heavy duty spring. Ipd has that.

I would recommended the Pierburg "HD" unit which is used on Porsches/Rovers. I build the IPD unit, but I wasn't impressed to be honest.

Is there really some internal difference?
I can see its half the price of original black Pierburg unit found on these cars ~15€ gray vs ~35€ black (7.22240.13.0)

Nevertheless i ordered one, and will let you know if it works better. Nice to have Porsche 911GT2 piece on your Volvo :P

Ok its in place now and i actually see some minor improvement in boost pressure @spool, but it cant hold it till redline (1,2-1,3bar), so it has to be the wastegate actuator.

A worn old wastegate actuator was the missing link when I optimized my S80 as well. After adding a boost gauge, I found out I was driving on wastegate pressure instead of "normal boost pressure". After replacing it with this Mambatek actuator (I have a 13T turbo), problem solved!

Hey guys! My first post actually! I have been using the forms as a way to get new information and tips and recently my car was having issues with gaining speed, as in, the car would like build pressure and release it suddenly, so driving was not fun and felt very weird. The internet said the TCV seems to be the culprit so I used your tip to use the porsche type, it was 30 euros cheaper (25 vs 55)! I also used new silicone hoses and man it goes again, also the lines where so old and broken, the turbo noice also seems alot peppier! You can see in the photos the new lines and TCV. Cheers!
