2004 XC70 -- Won't creep forward in drive at idle speed. AWD issue?

Post by E Showell »

At stoplights on ever so slight inclines when in D, I notice that the car will not creep forward of its own accord at idle speed. Will creep modestly on flat ground. Do I have an AWD issue if no creeping in D at idle?

Mine only creeps when it's flat and not uphill even if ever so slight and I don't have an awd to cause issues.

Just a good test that gravity is still working.

You can stop an Auto from creeping with a thick pencil if you put it in the tire carefully

B4? Why?

You may need a thicker ATF that transfers more torque in torque converter at idle revs. Mine creeps up: have fresh Volvo ATF and 4 oz of Lubegard HFM.

The B4 servo cover was apparently a cure for the "roll back" as well as a software update for the early P2'S .. according to IPD. I remember talking to Doc Tom about this (he started at Volvo of Cincinnati in 1975) and said that from about 2000 and up that the trannys are literally "designed"to slip... very slightly... for smooth shifting. As mileage increases... so does the slip. That's one reason why the 3.2 S80...t6 XC90 etc need transmissions. I'll never buy one. 5 cylinder turbo or nothing. The 1993-4-5-6-7-8 850 turbos trannys were built in Argentina from what I was told. BULLET PROOF. The Aisin Warner...as the name goes are Japanese. The "new" Chinese Volvo's...2015 and up.. 2.0..4 cylinder... turbo supercharger engines from what I've actually seen go about 80,000 and blow up. I was kinda excited about the new V90 wagon until I got the lowdown from the Tech's ...eh

Wife's 2016 XC60 T5 is B5254T2 :) Engine will outlast the rusty chassis :( More rust than my 2005 XC70 has. Ford's legacy...
