99 S70, fuel spraying, part unavailable? 9205158 NLA

Post by jesselks »

Any advice on my next step?

Last Sunday noticed gasoline spraying out onto ground. 100% sure this was not happening the day before (or ever before). Towed to dealership on Monday, but two days later and I'm told part 9205158 is unavailable. Then a suggestion to contact scrap yards.

I'm no longer in a position to do repairs like this myself (at my condo) or store a vehicle long term.

I posted a classified, but I've found a sales process can drag on so long that it may be worth looking for a repair option. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=90202

We need a good independent in your area who can make a pipe union repair to that pipe - its not rocket science, and the unions cost about $5.

One hour of labor.

Erie VoVo might be able to get that part for your, from NY

Where is the leak, exactly?

In a pinch I have have cut the line, put a small flare on both sides, and used a piece of fuel line and hose clamps to get past the leak. The little flare is to try to keep it from backing out of the hose clamp fitting.

Not sure where the leak is exactly yet. I was told passenger side engine bay. Which seems about right from what I saw looking from below. We had a massive rain storm earlier this week which cleaned off evidence of location from drips from my parking space. I was too concerned about fire risk to start the car again at the time.

Thank you both for the advice on a pipe union repair. If the dealer doesn't get back to me by tomorrow, I'll look into a local shop willing to help. Then check with Erie VoVo on a permanent part.

It’s #10 in this diagram

It looks like there is a connection to the front fuel line part that might make it easier to remove and union together

Thanks for all the help. Local shop repaired two areas. One hour of labor, but they charged $50 for parts.

Found out later that the "free towing for life" only qualifies if you call a special number to schedule the tow. Strangely, the service rep at the dealership didn't give me that number when I asked, but apparently some other towing company. Dealer ended up refunding towing but charged for "inspection" despite backing out of service.
