If you want to find a cheap used Volvo you might consider the 740, 940, and the 240. I can say without a doubt my 1989 740 GLT was completely indestructible. I didn't care for the 240 personally as the seating was less comfortable. Those cars are old now but I see them still driving around here. I would be reserved about the 960, and S90 as I owned both and they were more complex underneath and likely more expensive to fix. I particularly liked my S90 smooth ride and premium sound system. It is just a thought. June

Drive an S80 T6 for a half a day and you will not want to go back to a 240, 940, 960, S90 or even an 850 T5 ever. Had them all and wouldn`t go back. But for simple and cheap they are better.
July 2019 Update: The car has been a rock star (knock on wood) and I’m super glad I bought it. The brake booster baffle developed a leak, and while I ordered a repair sleeve for it, I’ve simply been patching the crack in it with silicone whenever it acts up. If and when that ever fails, I’ll replace it. Super happy with it.

Was discussing with my son today whether to get rid of the 2003 S80 T6 purchased recently with 131K or a 2003 Lexus G300 with 157K. He said he can foresee the Lexus at 300K but the S80 is so much more fun to drive (220 vs 268 hp), spacious, better mileage even with the extra 50 horses. 200K he thinks is not an issue but since I have little experience at this time with the mechanical not sure if I can tackle it in the future.RocketUSA wrote: ↑11 Jul 2019, 20:48 July 2019 Update: The car has been a rock star (knock on wood) and I’m super glad I bought it. Already put a shift kit in the transmission but still the stories about it going bad. The 98 S70 T5 trans was rock solid and engine seemed to be much easier to fix. Your update is steering me towards keeping the S80. Thanks.
Was curious about people saying it can get 30mpg on the freeway. Haven't seen that mark perhaps ever in the cars, well the VW Diesel Rabbit and Trunks did that.

Did a reset and drove 19 plus highway miles with no traffic.

I'm so glad you were not put off by all the negative comments. I still love mine better than any car bilt since. It was Volvo's pinnacle model in my opinion. Keep on enjoying yours!
