Re: When it's time to move on (and what did you buy?)
It's way easier for me to change a timing belt for $250 in a couple hours vs. spending $350+ on a full chain kit and whatever else needs to be done and take over a day. I can do a 5 cylinder belt in about 2-3 hours with no snags. The Durango timing chain (or I should say 3 chains, which all need to be aligned on the sprockets perfectly prior to installation, and they all need to be held taught as they're being installed... 3 man job) took a full day in the truck, when I did it a second time out of the truck (long story) it was much easier. But still worse than a belt.

Just wait for her to say it's time. Unless money is no object, then let her keep it. If not she will decide sooner or later that it is not economical to keep it. Then she will tell you she wants a new car.
In my case a good part of my raising my children I spent driving them in my S80. So I have a emotional attachment, and also I like driving it better than the new Volvos. She may have other reasons other than mine. June

We're not "new car" people. I've had her look at some P2's but she likes her 855 better. We just replaced the engine last year. It has no rust and is in solid mechanical shape. Unless it gets wrecked, it's probably no going any where for a while.June wrote: ↑24 Jul 2019, 10:12

No need to move on in that case! Sounds like a solid car that should last you a long time.

I was avoiding the W word! Sounds like a solid car with no need for replacement. Keep that service up to date and it'll last a long time. I would venture to say women are more emotional when it comes to our cars. I am at least. JuneChuck W wrote: ↑24 Jul 2019, 10:31We're not "new car" people. My wife knows nothing about cars and hate the smell of a parts or tire store. We sit as far from the tire department when enjoying Costco's food court. That being said she can tell if the car is not running well, even slightly. She is only sentimental enough till it's practical to change or like the feel of another car.June wrote: ↑24 Jul 2019, 11:08I was avoiding the W word! Took a bit for her to like the 03 S80 but she OK now with letting the 03 GS300 go when the time comes. The Lexus feels tighter but as speed increases the S80 becomes a nicer cruiser especially at highway speeds. It's tends to linger in the lower revs in the city. Could use one more gear.
