S40 coolant heater?

Post by Webpirate »

2006 volvo s40 manual 5 speed 2.4i.

Mounted in front of the steering rack there is a coolant heater. The prongs on mine are all rusted and d broken off. Does anyone know about this type of heater. I can't find anything about it in the volvo parts store but it looks like its factory mounted..
I'd like to buy a new one..

I ended up going to the scrapyard to check for the engine coolant heater because a new one is $188us which works out to about $240 before shipping canadian. I Found a slightly newer s40 that had one that looked brand new but it was a different style. My original one has one hose connection on the top and one on the side of the heater. The one off the newer Volvo had both hose connections on the side. I decided to take it anyway (and it turned out to be free, the scrap yard in my area doesn't charge for certain electrical stuff because they dont have time to verify it works). Brought it home, put water in the hater and it works. Went under the car and with a little bit of rerouting of 1 hose the new electric coolant heater is installed and ready for winter.. I didn't measure but I'm sure there was also 10 feet of cord for the plugin to route it anywhere you need. I just routed the cord the same way it was on the scrapnyard volvo because the scrapyard cord/heater had all the mounting clips already in place..
