Oh God, you didn't buy Scantech to save a couple of bucks, did you?
Bad stuff in general

Ordered the ball joints through FCP groton.
Supposed to be Meyle or Hamburg Technic according to the site.
Showed up as scantech....
I know, I know... scantech is not too consistent quality wise.....
been there, done that wearing the T-shirt....
Contacted FCP and got a two year warranty on the part....

will see.

Labor is not an issue at the moment.
I have a good plug at a local mechanic school.,,,
all I have to do is supply the parts....
it's just a PITA to loose time for a replacement and return the bad part.

in the meantime... Season's greetings
Good oh, glad you mentioned about the scantech items as I was about to buy a pair. Back to the main stealer for the ball joints then - $100US each in the UK.

Have a good one

Additionally, check the power steering level. There is a dip stick that will indicate whether you have lost any fluid. If you believe you may have lost fluid, have a look at the rack/rods. you may find more loose parts.

My V70, with 70k miles, needs a lower ball joint now. When it was on the jack, I pulled on the wheel at the 9 o'clock position. There was a surprising amount of play, and it was easy to see the ball joint move out and in. I have been putting together an order for eEuroparts.com, but to my surprise, they don't carry ball joints! Their site is very user friendly, Canadian aware, and competitive, but in my moment of greater need, they have failed me.

Sony, try control arm. The ball joint is attached to it and the entire control arm (also called A-arm) is replaced. Oh, and avoid ScanTech.

I found a Lemforder ball joint out of British Columbia for $70, with free shipping. Is there a modification necessary to have the OEM control arm receive the replacement ball joint. Something like welding nuts to the back side of the control arm?

Sony

No modification required.
Just some effort to get the thing aligned properly.

On my side, The beautiful streets of Montreal probably got the better of the ball joints installed last november. I'll have the car up to have a look tomorrow.

Not sure about the quality of the Lemforder.
I saw that IPD has them for sales for about 37$ each.
