What is the difference between blue(9140238) and black(9140391) rear nivomats?
They are both listed for 850/v70.
Mine have black ones, the parts car have blue ones.
Both have the same engine and auto transmission and both are wagons.
Mine is '97 and parts car is '96 with Yazaki cluster(if that means something).

Black have these marks A19 6992 NH29.
Blue A21 6992 NH24.

My passenger's side leaked and it's shot and took a bump stop with it.
I replaced that one since nivomats are not necessarily changed in pairs, like regular shocks, according to Volvo.
Ride height is the same on both sides, stability recovered.

I don't recall the different part numbers and having only had AWD Nivomats hard to say what the differences are. Worth checking if the part numbers have been updated by Volvo.

It could be a regular and HD version.

What is the ID on the Vin plate for the shock. It may help identify what the differences are.

I read something about differences between EU & U.S market nivomats(blue sticker, yellow sticker and something like that).
I tried to find specs via part numbers and i couldn't find nothing.

Parts car is just a year older with the same engine and transmission but it's nivomats are blue and mine have black ones.
Part numbers are in 1st post.

I used a set that didn't really match what should have been on the car and they worked fine.

The car they went on was a V70XC and the junk yard donor car was a S70 AWD.

If you replace them one at a time there might be some handling issues but if you replace them in pairs I doubt you could even tell one from the other,

No handling issues at all,Lee!
The fact is that handling is recovered and the car behaves like it should.
Ride height is the same...when i bounce it,it behaves the same on both sides.

Blue nivomats came from a car which is also a wagon...same engine, auto transmission...just a year older(1996)...so i wonder if Volvo updated part numbers from 1997.
Since just one was shot and leaked down i just replaced that one.

Found it!
https://volvozone.eu/product/volvo-8626 ... rt?tid=145

They are sport suspension nivomats. ;)
On the picture it's black but Volvo number match with blue ones.

It seems that black ones are "normal"nivomats:

so you should not mix them but put the sport ones on both sides. if you put the donor car Springs on there as well you will have a partially dropped Volvo...

Springs are the same for all nivomats except for awd cars as far as i could investigate on my catalogues and data.
As far as i could tell for a few days of driving, there are no problems....except that it feels a bit "harder" on the back.

I just had rear passenger's side failed,so stability is recovered like it was new.

I bought a set so swaping the other one is a 15-30min job,no problem.

But from this experience....there is no need for it.
Ride height is the same on both sides.

interesting that the ride height is the same. but if it is the same, the springs should be different for the lowered sport suspension. My 96 R sits alot lower (like 3 cm) than my 94T5 and my 95 10V.
Also, I ordered new sport Nivomats and springs last year, and they had different part numbers than the regular springs and seemed to be shorter than regular ones.

What is the part # for your sport Nivomats?
They can have part# just like blue ones from the parts car i got and they can ONLY be OE which is Sachs.
Springs must be the same since nivomats use just two kinds of springs....regular(2wd) and awd.
What springs did you bought...OE or aftermarket?

Different OE part number can be explained with update from Volvo.
Does your other cars have also Nivomats at rear?
