Yeah I agree. But I can't watch another Californian crush a R model without trying to get these saveable puppies elsewhere adopted.

It's really unfortunate, because in CA, they just want to sell the car to the state for $1k for them to crush. I get that it makes more financial sense than selling it for $500 to someone who can save it, but it's just a scummy thing to do.
And they stand by their asking price and hold it over your head like they won't negotiate with you at all because "California will pay me $1,000". Much like the people who would rather donate it and get their precious tax write off. It's hard for us, because I would never pay more than $500 for these rolling turds that they want $3k for just because they have $15k into it over the past 25 years and they can donate it or sell it to California for $1,000.

Ugh... CA makes my blood boil.

Well, if you want to pay less than market price for something, you have to work harder.

Usually, its a car that can't pass smog that gets sold off on the program, and thats a real problem out there.

A dry CA $1000 project will beat any $500 car in the Eastern seaboard, of course.

I agree, but I can only justify spending so much on any particular car. I couldn't pay $1,000 for an old Volvo project unless I can drive it home and it's in really good cosmetic shape. That's not to say I wouldn't spend more for a nice one... a well sorted S60R could fetch $7k. I won't even get into P2 VRs... those are outrageously overpriced. I saw a Flashacama M66 listed for $18k the other day. Rare color combo, but still...
Then again, I just bought the most expensive car I've ever bought yesterday... which was $1k.

The non-runners are the real deals - but you need the experience to figure out what is wrong and know what it needs to get going again from a non-running inspection - thats the art form.

For sure. Almost every car I've bought has been a non-runner. That's how I keep em cheap!

DIY is good therapy, keep one away from expensive shrinks, it works better then apples.
To top it off you got something to show for it in the end.

I would avoid unless you really can't live without an NA, red, 2001 manual S60. It might be the only one... possibly maybe.

The wheels look odd.
That S60 is same as my v70. NA and came stock with those weird wheels. I refer to them as 'granny' wheels. I did a swap with a 98 v70 xc that was headed to the scrapyard.
