Post by abscate »

Did cooling group refresh on the S70, including heater hoses

I have rest of the hoses for a 1999 NA , too if wanted.

Upper rad
Lower rad
Both heaters hoses
Reservoir to water pipe
Reservoir to radiator

Have two decent shape heater hoses for some one in need. Will move to classified for sale in one week.

Don’t be that guy...take free parts, then resell. Seriously.

I will be building those up from some 5/8 gates heater hose that I have from another project

I need old heater hoses from p80s to Get the Volvo fittings as cores. If folks have these please ship them to me, PM for address.

Cost of build about $20
Shipping of core fittings x2 $30

So $50 will get you a set of two heater hoses part numbers

I looked at heater hoses awhile back for my 850. I was just perusing what's available, and not really in need. I was shocked by the price I was seeing for these hoses. On my truck the engine side of the heater core supply hose uses what I like to call a quick "mis-connect" since the OEM fitting is a known issue. I replaced it with a brass hose barb and bulk hose. If I'm understanding the Volvo parts, the "special" side is on the firewall/heater-core side and replacing with bulk hose is not possible. My guess is that you're cutting the factory crimp off, and removing the metal fitting and having a hydraulic shop crimp new hose in place... is that correct?

Does Volvo use the heater circuit as a thermostat bypass, for more even cooling, on our engines? I wonder if I could block the heater core ports, in the event I had a bad hoses, and needed to get them rebuilt.

I would have believed you could bypass the heater core if the pipes needed replaced by running a piece of pipe from where the pipe starts to the heater core on the back of the block and the where the return pipe ends back at the engine. Just no heating will be available.

Oh yes, I wasn't thinking of that for some reason. I wonder are the two ports on the engine the same diameter? They are not on on my truck, but I do have a coupler to join 5/8" and 3/4" hose together. I suppose, I could likely find a coupler in whatever sizes the 850 needs.

The bayonet ends of the two heater hoses both nicely fit 5/8 heater hose. I’m not sure about the other ends. I have jumped the core on a leaking car at the bayonet ends. I got 5/8 on both fittings but have to still make sure they seal.

Volvo P80 cores are full flow at all times. I’ll just open the crimp and double oetiker the new hose to the fittings

It’s $160 for Volvo parts new

I have previously removed the heater hoses entirely and just looped a single hose on the engine side, that works too.

No rush on these. Built into the price structure is paying people to ship me their old ones , though

I do want the old hose too. I’ll slice it lengthwise and use thst as a combination chafe relief and shape former for the straight hose.
