HI forum members. I have a 01 V70XC AWD with aw55-50sn box. The box is almost dead, car is undriveable after 5-10 min. So my question: can I install a transmission from a 01 C70 also with aw55-50SN? I'll attach the manufacturer plates from the gearboxes... The dirty plate is from my xc,the clean from the c70, can I swap them?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply Mdk. That's true,C70 is Fwd,but it is the only remanufactured gearbox I can find, and it has the fittings for the angle gear to be bolted on the gbox. The manufacturer plate says its produced 00E and my box is 00M so that's only weeks apart right?
As far as the numbers go... That's probably a question that the moderators could answer. The other factor would be the transmission control module.. (computer under the hood) TCM.. maybe someone else will chime in and be able to give you better advice... But like I said... I would get a good used one from a S 60 AWD plus the TCM from the scrap yard...MDK

Thanks MDK. I'm waiting from the moderators or someone to help me or confirm the swap is doable, because thats the only box I could find in my region. I know I have to do the adaptation if the swap works, but that's all I know. Someone please?

I am no expert here, but as I understand it the only difference between FWD and AWD is the addition of the angle gear. If this is correct then moving the angle gear over to convert it to AWD should work. The TCM will only see different solenoid parameters which can be reset by doing an adaptation. The valve body should be the same - the difference is the learned programing.
My one question would be if the C70 and XC70 transmissions have the same gear selection operation and any corresponding internals. Volvo made some updates to this and it is unclear if the two are the same - and if they are different just moving the mechanicals over will work. I don't know, but it is something one should dig into.
Why not rebuild the current gearbox? If you are buying a remanufactured the price should be about the same. You will have exactly what you need when it is done.
Sounds like the filter on your current box may be clogging up or your solenoids are sticking once the tranny oil temp gets hot. What is the condition of the current fluid?

In AWD transmission front differential has a splined stub shaft (to where the collar sleeve goes), it goes into a splined sleeve built-in in the carrier assembly. These bits are missing in FWD version. Maybe the casing is different, too. If you are handy, you can swap the differential from your AWD transmission to a FWD donor.
Drive to Latvia, get a rebuilt transmission there or get yours rebuilt

Thanks for the reply's. I guess the angle gear will fit,the casing on the box looks the same, it has fittings for angle gear to be attached. Even if its not working I'll drive as a Fwd with detached propeler shaft. The gear selector is my concern, probably not the same in the C70 gearbox(donor car) I dont know if the PNP switch from mine v70xc will work on the new box? Can someone confirm this please?
Maybe my filter is clogged its winning when hot.fluid is new...? Any other thoughts forum?

OK thanks a lot vtl, what about the gear selector in the cabin...? C70 has P R N D 123 I guess, and I have geartronic PRND +&-? Does anyone have any knowledge about that?
