Quick Q regarding SIPS airbags

Post by Cookeh »

Evening,

I was just wondering if the P80 V70 (specifically a 1998) had SIPS airbags triggered by mechanical force, like with the 850s, or if it differed.

I have found some leather seats from a 98 V70 that are in much better condition than the half-vinyl half-cloth ones in my MY96 850, and I'm interested in swapping them out.

I know I would have to swap the seatbelt receivers over, but I have no idea if the SIPS airbags would be compatible with the 850s, and ideally I'd like to keep them operational.

Thanks!

In North America

-1998 were impact actuated SIPS
1999- on were control module fired SIPS

I believe this was worldwide ,too.

Hey man.. MDK here. You can unbolt the 1998 V-S 70 seats and unplug them an install them in a 1996 850 W-S with out a problem. I've done it before..

Thanks both, you are both correct - I also found another thread which covers the differences in the seats in V70s (-98 and '99-00), both in terms of cosmetics, functionality and airbags.

Easy swap. The outside seat rail, where the seatbelt attaches, can be unbolted from the 850 seat and mounted on the S/V70 seat. 15 minute operation, making sure that the fore/aft position is the same.
