Strut - 1994 850 wagon - clunk sound, now it's leaning

Post by loveMy850 »

Hi Guys, I've got a dilemma.. I had both struts replaced. Afterwards I drove 4 miles stopped and parked. There was a clunkand now it's leaning. I know it's lower because after this I had to put new sway links on cause the ones I ordered didn't fit when the job was done.when we put it on a 4 legged ( whatever you call it ) ( : hydraulic lift it was lower getting that side of the leg lift up under the car. What the heck happened? Why did it fall? A friend said its probably the clamp wasn't tight and the spring dropped in the cup spring. I don't know. I do know if it has to be taken off again I have to get all new mount nuts.or could I have gotten a bad strut. There Sachs original. What do you guys think is going on? Thank you❤

Take some pictures of the struts with some light so we can see detail and maybe

The cheap strut parts are the Devils tin snips, tempting you with their price, only to break on the trip home.

Either a spring failed or the top strut mount broke. Open the hood to check the latter. But, considering the age of the car, I would lean towards a broken spring. If this is the case, you will need new springs on both sides.

If I had a larger garage, I could have more Volvos.

Did the spring seat bust through? Usually hits the hood.

"Usually" hits the hood??? I've heard of that a couple times but never actually seen it happen, And I've seen a couple dozen busted. P80 spring seats.

Would be interested to see pics of the strut hitting the hood.

Maybe it's more rare than I thought but it happens. I guess it's more due to installer error.
