Using the engine to dry the carpet after heater core replacement.

Post by June »

I got the carpet out this morning and the foam backing was soaked with coolant. After hours of trying to dry it out I decided maby it would dry better if I rinsed out the coolant. So after rinsing the carpet thoroughly and using a wet dry vacuum it still won't dry. I decided to set it on top of the engine while running. This seems to be working out well. The foam is really thick! June

Put a towel underneath and step on it to get most of the liquid out. Then just let it sit outside in the sun for a day or two.
Thats what i usually do.

Been through a pile of bath towels. A hurricane is on its way so I needed it back together today. I just checked it and the engine heat has almost dried it completely. I do have the compressor on so the fan is on. June

I have this sinking feeling that all the carpet is ruined... I shoved paper towels under the driver's seat carpet and it came back soaked in antifreeze! Unfortunately Volvo no longer has replacement carpet according to my dealer. The up side it is easy to pull out the carpet. I didn't even break a nail! June

If you lived in Arizona, it would dry in a day. But in FL, where the humidity is 90-95%, it will take forever to dry. The rear carpet will also have to be removed, washed and dried. But I would wait until after the rain stops, in about 4 days.
Meanwhile, get a full tank of gas, pack up the family and go for a drive, like to TX or MN!

If I had a larger garage, I could have more Volvos.
