OK, so I went back and checked who I ordered the solenoids from - was Parts Geek - approx $100 each.

Nah, that's 'manual' diagnostics/understanding at a level better described as electrical/systems engineering that your first line of 'basic ASE certified techs', who know enough to follow procedures spelled out in a service manual (will solve most common-99% of issues), don't always have a good handle on. He/she cost more money to bring in: the dealer probably didn't make much $ off that second visit.
He's good enough to catch that the solenoid was pulling too much current - enough to drag down the supply voltage shared between it and several other sensors resulting in multiple DTCs.
