Re: 1999 S70 "AWD" Rescue Thread
I haven't had good luck with those wraps or cement on my Miata. The car sounds like hell with the rotted out stock exhaust. I really need to get a new cat back... I gotta talk to my parts guy and see if he has any nice aftermarket ones laying around.

That's not an option here. There's a whole 2 inches of pipe missing. Ideally need to replace at 4 inch section of pipe.

A missing piece is easier than a hole. Get to Advance and you can get Premade repair sections in the right diameter.
Cement up, slip muffler back, slip, repair on, two clamps.
It will last a year or two.
It is easiest to Jack the car up on one side at front and back as high as you can, jack stands or ramps of course.

That's what I would have done, but I measured the OD at 62mm, roughly 2 7/16". The only thing that will fit over it has an ID of 2 1/2", but I think that will leave too much of a gap to clamp on properly.abscate wrote: ↑28 Aug 2019, 04:47 A missing piece is easier than a hole. The silicate cement or glass wrap will fill that perfectly.

Well... this took a dramatic turn. Driving home early Monday morning, going around a wet turn, felt the front wheels suddenly lock causing the car to spin out, nose dive into the embankment, spin around again, and striking a tree with the front passenger door.
Damage report: bottom of bumper ripped off, radiator sandwich mangled, fan shroud touching intake manifold, battery where intake is suppose to be, hood doesn't line up to close, 2 of 3 hood latches broken, all coolant leaked out, most of oil leaked out, both corner lights and driver headlight busted, passenger door mangled, rocker panel mangled, dash cracked, windshield shattered, A pillar looks deformed, both front axles mangled, transmission shot, bearings found on the ground... you get the idea.
Conclusion: Totaled, time to part it out like originally intended. Pictures to come later.

Wow, that sucks! I guess a part out is the best option at this point, doesn't sound like it would be easy to get back together.

If the A-pillar is bent, I'm not sure the frame is salvageable without compromising the structural integrity of the car. Even if the frame was intact, it would be much easier to find another volvo than find and swap in a new drive line. Got my eye on a rebuilt 144 and a 760 Turbo.

Oooh... a 144 would be sweet! And 760 turbos are pretty hard to find these days... either one would be cool!
