2008 XC90 3.2 AWD Front Axle Replacement Brand Advice

Post by MorePower19 »

Hi Everyone. I need advice on Replacement Front Axles for a 2008 XC90 3.2 AWD.

1. What brand is best

2. Pricing

I like to drive the vehicle like it is bullet proof. I have intent on keeping it for a long time so endurance and reliability is more important to me than price. I have browsed DDS and had quotes from Volvo directly.

Volvo wants more than $800 per side with a $75 core. These are remanufactured drive shafts. I find it hard to believe that any part that is remanufactured is worth this much money. To be honey, the vehicle value according to KBB is only $7K. Axles should be 30% of the total value of the vehicle?

Again money isn’t important, but come on here..

Where i live there are shops specialized in rebuilding axles. Cheaper and often better than aftermarket. Might be worth looking into?

Doesn’t look like a rebuild is an option. I would rebuild these axles myself if I could. The garages here are body shops stating they rebuild for a unusually high price. Why are remanufactured parts so expensive??? And they want me to send back the core.. what a rip off.

I really just want to know what manufacturer is the highest rated or best. $900 Volvo OEM per side is ridiculous.

Ah one of the perils of living on an island. :P
Repair costs on imported cars are generally quite expensive here in Oz as well, though the aftermarket shafts can be found for under $200 AUD each off ebay.
