Buying them new is a last resort IMO. Two words - JUNK and YARD. Plenty of these will still have the original calipers.

A whole caliper is $13 at my favorite u-pull, and trivial to access at the yard. Walk up to the counter with two caliper pins I bet you will pay less. Bring a magnet but probably just keep any that are still shiny.

Thats sweet pricing, Erik. Nearest to me is an hour drive, and showing $50-65 per caliper. When I add the time, the removal time, etc, FCP "Pay once and cry" seems like a deal.

I do see them at $20 down in Webster CT but that is quite a hike.

Ouch, can't refute the numbers.

That u-pull isn't my closest, just my favorite. It's 3 hours away but is in the regular travel circuit. And they get $13 + $5 core for a full caliper, but presumably if you're bringing pins to the counter not a caliper, there is no core charge. https://upullrparts.com/part-pricing/

BTW as to a question higher up in the thread: I recently returned calipers without pins to Rockauto, still received a full core charge refund. Makes sense given that they put in new (chintzy) slide pins as part of the rebuild.

The official name for cheap, crappy metal used in parts for the rich people who can afford to do a job twice (once with crappy part, then again.) is now:

"Silver cheese"

and

" Chinesium" is hereby retired.
