2006 s60 awd 2.5t timing belt decision

Post by icecold40 »

When I bought my first Volvo a couple months ago, sat in the seat, drove it, I was hooked and realized I would have been hooked years before. The car has 200k and so far seems to be tight and sound.
There is a sticker on the engine compartment that indicates the T Belt was replaced at 113k so I'm giving this a #1 priority, couple of questions tho;
I've always been a do it yourself mechanic, doing some jobs like timing chain and air suspension conversion on my 96 Lincoln Mark VIII so the question lingers To Do.....Or Not To Do and at 70 it doesn't get any easier
A quote from a very reliable auto shop was $300 plus parts
Which brings about the second question: Are any of the aftermarket parts reliable enough to last for another 100k or should I spend the extra money for the real deal items including Volvo water pump, idler, tensioner, belt, etc
Thanks for any push in the right direction
Howard

What about the idler and tensioner pully as I heard several stories about those (also just as important items) lasting like 10k, freezing up and causing a new belt snap

Go OEM on the tensioner and pullies.
