A little off topic this being an S80, but still similar to the S60/V70
This was the Dutch Royal family car (well, actually it was the duchess car), a modified S80 with a base 2.4 non turbo engine - in Europe the S80 was sold with this 168hp engine, surely not that powerful for such a car.
Be sure to switch on the subtitles
The car is now owned by some Volvo collector, Hans Blokzijl who owns.... 110 Volvos!

There are a ton of those around, relatively speaking. I've even seen one or two with taxi plates around a few years ago. I think those might have belonged to Volvos own internal taxi division
The S80 was also used as a base to build ambulances and undertaker's cars by the way.

I've seen it! But already knew they existed. Call me morbid, but the hearse version in T6, would be the ultimate Volvo wagon.
The UN in New York still uses a fleet of 1st generation S80 factory armored vehicles as the secondary fleet. Newer armored Volvos for the 1st fleet. The 1st generation S80 is the last line Volvo offered with in house factory armored as a option. All models since are sent out and armored. It was a expensive option. June

That car got so much attention across the Internet that a non-Volvo friend (you know those people) contacted me about it, asking what I thought.oragex wrote: ↑23 Sep 2019, 13:53 There was one for sale in Vegas just a few weeks ago https://www.thedrive.com/news/29364/jus ... h-diplomat
That was a textbook case of Web virality.

For 4k I would have bought that in heartbeat - until you find out it was an FC car and you can't register it as a US citizen.oragex wrote: ↑23 Sep 2019, 13:53 There was one for sale in Vegas just a few weeks ago https://www.thedrive.com/news/29364/jus ... h-diplomat

I looked over a P2 s80 armored car on a lift once. It was shocking to see what all had been done. a swelled exhaust tip with extra heavy gauge expanded metal to prevent stuffing harmful things into exhaust. Heavy plating under fuel tank. Metal plating over fuel lines under length of car. A metal splash pan IPD would envy. Linered double tires. Fixed over 1 inch thick ballastic glass. Double layer louvered opposing slant metal plates to protect radiator. There were other things I was not allowed to see and they were not allowed to work on in the shop. The tech said he did know the glove box was sealed shut so it was assumed some sort of alternate air supply and external air sealing was likely done. A guy with curly tubing in one ear and he talked to his wrist waited with car. It was an oil company executive's car and was going to some South American country. Oh, the mods were very stealthy. There was no obvious clues to the armoring. There was an armoring company (likely still is one or more) in Dallas area that armored lots of Suburbans and Excursions when they were made and many other cars.
