Post by Mikele82 »

OMG, UPDATE Septemner 13. --- COPS called, car found an hour away, got it back and in decent condition!
soooooo Happy !!!!!!!
----
So long story short, our xc70 was stolen august 25th and a drunk driver hit us and totaled the 240 sep 8th.
Im running out of Volvos, and who knows if the xc70 will re-appear.
ive got an old 240 wagon but definitely looking into a newer car now.
What would the best post 2000 volvo in terms of reliability and safety... and fun to DIY work on it if necessary?

examples from a dealer close by to us im looking at:

The link was to the dealer's entire inventory.
All I know is the P2 V/XC70 line.
Budget?
Long term car?
Interim car?
Space? (stick with the P2 station wagons)
The ball is still in your court.

What I have learned is to only buy a post-2002 in the P2 cars, due to transmission problems in 2001 and 2002. I notice a lot of very cheap 2001's for sale around here and elsewhere - there's a reason.

I also read recently that the P3's (2008 and up) are pretty reliable cars.
< EDIT > This may be 2nd hand information.......

My beloved 240 turbo wagon was totaled by someone while parked in front of the house, long ago. We'd probably still have that car if not.

I like the looks of the XC60 and surely is an improvement, but I would be afraid about the potential issues. There have been widespread problems with windshield leaking over electronics, cabin blower going bad costing a fortune (located in the middle of the dash), surely other annoyances Perhaps not the same build quality as the P2's but may be worth a look

A 2007-up S80 will surely cost to maintain but it's also quite a car - albeit I guess that's the time when Volvo started to use more Ford parts ( I believe the P2 platform was almost exempt of Ford components)

Ask yourself:
How much room do I need inside?
How important is fuel economy?
How many miles do you drive per year?
How much HP do you need? (Is turbo necessary?)
Do you REALLY need AWD?

Volvo has probably built, sometime in the last 15 years, a model that fills the bill.

I’ve taken down my ad for the really cheap 2004 XC with no title as the car is no longer available
