Car won't start, worked yesterday. 2000 V70 manual

A year after my original post, my 2000 V70 failed to start again. That time, there was no start, no crank, and no click, the sound made by the solenoid engaging. The problem was the engine ground strap had failed. I replaced it with a home made heavy gauge cable with eye connectors on each end. The car started right up and I'll swear I noticed a healthy ticking sound from the engine (lifters?) which I hadn't heard before. That's another thing to check when the car won't start.

Thats from you car sitting 'too much' which can be as little as 2-3 days if there is a big temperature swing - guess what happens this time of year

Drive it on the highway a bit, spin it up to 4000 rpm (aren't manuals great?) and that noise will be gone, or you will have a hole in your block. (Last part is a bad joke)
