oxygen sensor1:my hands are not small enough!

Post by Mootman »

Hello out there! Can someone please give me some advice on how to install the upstream 02 sensor on my '98 xc70 turbo? It was hard enough getting the old one out. I feel like I might need to tear out a bunch of stuff to get the new in. It would be great to hear from people who have done this job and maybe get some tips. I am pretty creative with tool improv but this is borderline rediculous! I have the curved 02 sensor socket tool and i have tried everything from extra long pliers to sticks but cannot get the threads started!

Try to push the exhaust where you want/need it with a 2x4 gently... I had to do this on a '99 Jetta that had what I swear was a titanium PCV hard pipe to get everything lined up.

You should be able to start that with your fingers - so you're most likely running into an alignment issue.

Drop the wires down a large hose and slip the end over the O2 Sensor. Use the hose to turn the O2 sensor.
