The other day I checked the ATF level on my 96 R and discovered that it was a bit low. The strange thing is that the color of the ATF was neither red nor dirtyish brown but rather clear. I had replaced it two years ago and do an additional drain/refill once or twice a year. The fluid still smells like ATF, but the red seems to be gone. Sincr I was a bit low on fluid and it still smells like ATF I am ruling the chance of radiator/tranny cooler leak out.
I've always used Mobil ATF 320 which covers Dex 3G.
Is it normal that the ted color disappears before the fluid turns nasty brown?
ATF not red anymore? Topic is solved

Sounds like ATF where the dye just gave up the ghost. I've seen this in my commercial trucks as well... Last time I questioned our fleet mechanic he said to not worry about it.
