Did the oil look different as it was pouring out of the drain plug? Or was the only evidence of this sludge on the filter and in the housing?

I might have to cut open some filters to check mine as I have the older style metal canister filters.

The oil drained out pretty clean, no sludge there. It was dark, but nothing abnormal. The only thing out of the ordinary was the sludge in the filter.
I've used Marvel's mystery oil in the past for a few oil changes to get the sludge, etc cleaned up. I've also used it on my hands to remove really nasty road grease. As best I can tell it is one heck of a detergent.

I've been really happy with Marvel. I use it to free up seized engines, and I've also used it as a fuel treatment (works pretty well) and an an oil additive (seems to clean really well). I've noticed really surprising results from using in my my lawn mowers. One of my mowers runs MUCH smoother with a little bit of MMO in the tank!

I found a Hidden Hitch at the junkyard yesterday for the XC90, bolted right on easily! An absolute steal for $28!
So naturally, I went and bought a hitch this morning and rented a dolly to go pick up my newest project.

The V8 did really well! Pulled the S70 with little effort, it felt like my cousin’s old F-150 when we pulled the 850 home. The brakes got a little hot as I got close to home (only a 30 minute tow) but I need to check those out again anyway. I just changed all four rotors and pads a couple weeks ago but I haven’t been happy with the pedal feel. Probably needs a bleed, I doubt the original fluid has been flushed out more than maybe once at 160k miles.

Tore into the S70 after finishing up a basically complete stage 0 on the 940 (which still has some squeaking pulleys... I'll investigate further tomorrow once it stops raining). Went to do a leak down test and discovered LOTS of coolant in cylinder 3. Definitely a bad head gasket!
I was really hoping that it was the oil cooler somehow, but I know those don't fail often at all.

Peeked under the hood of the T5 to show my brother a crumbling polyurethane upper engine mount that the PO had installed, only to find that it had completely disintegrated. Amazingly, he had a spare one along with the press to install it.

He also checked Blue Steel, which had a bit too much play in the steering wheel, and discovered a floppy sway end link. Dry rot. He had a spare one of those, too.

Replaced top torque mount with OEM Hutchinson. The poly one was torn to bits after being in just about 2 years.

For anyone wondering, the long bolts go towards the crank pulley.

P80 part change on the upper mount from -1998 to 1999- The bastards get the all cast metal housing type.
