can't find rear shocks for 1996 960 wagon
can't find rear shocks for 1996 960 wagon
Hi..I have tried every auto parts website that shows availability but am having no luck coming up with rear shocks for my 1996 960 wagon -not nivomat, has independent multi link suspension, code Y....Many parts websites show them including ebay, but when you try to order they come up as discontinued. Also tried a Volvo dealer with the same results. Any idea on where I can find these? Or what to do if they can't be found? The part number is 272220 and it is also cross-referenced as 124816. Thanks.

Jimmy, how did the 940 shocks work out on a 960? Interested in this post here because I'll be ordering shocks for my non Nivomat '96 960 sedan sometime soon.
Hoping it's the shocks and not any of IRS bushings making the noise.

Thanks...I have found a Gabriel shock that is supposed to fit - #69417. My local Autozone store was able to get it even though when I tried to order it on their website it showed as not available. I will post back and let you know if they fit right.

Please do. I thought all wagons used the Nivomat shocks. It all has to do with the transverse spring in the rear end.
I've got noise in mine going over certain bumps/rough road. Hoping it is just the shocks and not suspension bushings. Shocks are only 23 years old now. Bushings I can see seem to look fine.

The car rode fine and there was no noise. I think I had to use a flat washer as the captive sleeve in the rear bushing on the bottom was too short.
The leaf spring is different on Nivomat vs non Nivomat. All Nivomat cars use a weaker spring set and the self-leveling feature supports a small amount of weight when there no one or any load in the vehicle.
