to rust proof or not....
Hi guys, just wondering if any of you have been rust proofing your car? I had posted this for my previous 95 850 wagon.. but now that i have the 2006 v70, i want to keep it for a while. I'm not sure what's a better choice? rust-proofing or washing the car often in the salty winter months? I noticed today at the brushless car wash that it has jets that spray underneith the car..is this a better option? i know there are different rust proof centers that use different things, some have more fluid oils, some more thicker, some use a thick grease..let me know what you guys think? or are doing?...thanks

It is a Volvo - unless it was in an accident it should not rust with normal washing. I wouldn't rust proof.
My 2004 XC90 had zero rust on the body panels, save for some rock chips just past the windshield and it spent basically 14 years in Minnesota, salt and all.

I absolutely recommend rustproofing if you live in salt country. I strongly recommend Corrosion Free if you can find an applicator near you. Google them. Odor and drip free, non film forming. Creeps into seams, cable sheaths, etc. I have it done every 2 years. Fluid Film or Krown seem to be the best alternatives.

This is the most critical area for the P2 cars. Not all will have this issue - perhaps the rust will start after replacing the strut, and unfortunately it is very difficult to see it with the strut in place. www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3gNNboxytg
You may also look under the car, particularly around the gas tanks - that's where I would apply some thicker rustproofing if looking to keep it for another 10y or so. But for only 5 years more that wouldn't be needed. Other than that, as mentioned above, everything painted on this car is crazy solid, not only the body panels are galvanized, but the paint is so thick, I bet it added quite a bit to the car weight.

Ive had 5 Volvos come through my fleet and not a single one was rustproofed, and none were rusty.
