How do you like BlackBetty? Is she a typical Volvo or being an XC70 she is considered high maintenance?

Basically the buy it now price of 6k gets you into a cherry P2 at 6k for the next 100k miles, while the OO paid 60k for the first. Amazing.MoVolvos wrote: ↑24 Oct 2019, 15:45Hi Pete,- Pete - wrote: ↑23 Oct 2019, 18:23
I can go look it over if anyone is interested. I have honestly never even seen one of these in person, let alone for sale.

Is it far from you? I am interested and was curious if the CL car could make it up a carrier and not blow up. I have a shipper I found on eBay and have spoken with him. His rates are excellent and has been doing this for a long time. Below is the eBay vehicle I was looking at with the shippers info. It's basically new from the pictures. Thanks.

About that ebay car... interestingly enough, I got my 1999 s70 from that same seller. They are local to me and their whole business is going to dealers and scooping up the cars that were traded in that the dealer doesn't want. (ie cars older that 5 years, high mileage, etc).MoVolvos wrote: ↑24 Oct 2019, 15:45Hi Pete,- Pete - wrote: ↑23 Oct 2019, 18:23

The owner (I think) told me that most of his cars he gets just go to auction as he can't make money trying to sell a 2005 camry selling on ebay. The cars he sells on ebay are generally less common cars.
They were perfectly fine to work with and although my sample size here is n=1, their description and photos of the car matched what I got in person. He also told me I might have been the first customer buying a car from that that actually lived in the philly area. He said they regually ship the cars but rarely have anyone come in local (NJ, PA, DE). They are right in Philly. I'm in a suburb.
Obviously I know nothing about that particular car. I just wanted to share my (n=1) experience with that seller.

Oh, me? She seems good so far. I think Betty's issues are mostly because she was taken in for regular service, at a reputable independent, but he used aftermarket bargain parts which didn't last, and maybe didn't know the Volvo quirks like PCV replacement and cam seals, etc. I've been trying to do some catch-up and replace struts, control arms, PCV, fuel pump, those sorts of things. One issue is my mistake - I believe I must have tangled the float arm in the tank with one of the crossover hoses so my gas gauge is really wonky and stops moving at a half tank. Out it comes again!
Owned by a non-car person who parked her out in the sun for days or weeks on end. That person now owns a C70 convertible (black) and a new XC60 (black). I named the car Blackbart and joined the forum, then my wife said, our garden cart is Bart the Cart, we can't have that!
I don't have any info on the first owner, or records, but it was purchased new in NY, then moved to Providence and traded in at Tasca. No signs of any of the rust I see on NE cars - I think she got out of there when fairly new.
So I think she's settling in to a solid reliable car. I'm getting rid of a nice A4 Audi manual wagon because I just don't need it and I'm not excited about fixing major systems ever again. We'll rely on Betty I hope.
And the clock runs wild when you start it up - just spins and spins, then stops at a random time. Might be the contacts on that reset knob in the cluster.
My wife drives her only a mile to work, so we need to get this car out on the highway.

How hard would it be to go through this Ocean Race engine and replace all bearings, check for sludged passages - not a full rebuild? Is it cheaper / easier to just replace with a salvage engine? $1000 to 1500 for a good used engine?
I guess the caveat there is you won't know if there's more damage than rod bearings until you completely disassemble. Was it run low on old oil and things are hot and scored? Like cam journals.

Could have been either BIN or sold locally. I like that you can sell locally and watch all the eBay low ballers moan.

It was not me.
Last night I showed the car to my wife to point out it was offered by the same folks that sold me mine and I was surprised it was de-listed.
We already have 3 car and two drivers as my boys are off at college. I couldn't absorb another car right now. There are LOTS out there I'd love to have and tinker with. ... For some reason I want to try out a Saab before they all vanish completely.. As if working on volvos isn't challenging enough. I want a car from a company that's out of business!..
I suspect that someone used the buy it now option. I've been to their lot. It's actually a warehouse in rough neighborhood. It's an ancient former paper mill or paper warehouse based on the fading signage on the building.. surrounded by fence and razor wire so there isn't any real way they would have someone see and buy it locally. I mean I supposed it could have been some local contact , friend, or something.. but I'm guessing it was buy it now.. The building is quite cool as you can see some amazingly thick exposed beams that were essentially complete tree trunks when they were installed who knows how long ago.
But I swear.. it wasn't me..

BKM, sorry for literally zero feedback. I haven't been on here since I believe I posted it. I should have made myself more available after saying I'd go check it out for anyone interested. The offer still stands for anyone who finds a prospective vehicle in this area. I really didn't think it'd sell that fast. My apologies.
