I think a number of junkyards will give you a guarantee at $500-1000 price point

Oh, that seems reasonable. Some shipping, some free labor, a bunch of replacement parts and hoses, and Bob's your uncle. I think that's probably a $1000 car, no? Assuming the rest of it isn't abused in line with the engine woes.

I saw my friend with the Ocean Race blue this morning dropping off at school. Nice car. Was doing well on our glare ice.

You can occasionally find complete running 2.5T engines (sometimes w/trans) up here for a couple hundred bucks. I had a 125k 04 2.5T w/Aisin auto trans lined up for $200 not long ago - vanished a day or two before I was to pick it up. There's plentiful "runs/drives" $3-700 P2's for sale up here, riddled with issues no doubt. At the Volvo scrap yard I like to support, 2.5T mileage dependent, you'd be looking at $1-$1.2k w/guarantee.

With respect to the seller, I'll share my assessment of the car via PM's/emails. If anyone is interested in details just let me know. Happy to help.

The Ocean Race ranks pretty low on the Volvo Desirability Scale IMHO. P80 Platinum: higher. Any R: higher.

It’s just a XC70 in need of an engine.
