Body Parts Interchange

Post by GeekDad66 »

I trashed the driver side of my 2008 XC70 (which protected me well) from the front bumper to the rear. I found a 2006 XC70 (same color no less) for cheap. The body style basically looks the same, but the part numbers for the body panels are different. I am not concerned if it is 'perfect' and was wondering if I could simply transfer body parts from one to another AND HAVE THEM FIT.

The 06 vehicle headlight assemblies appear to be slightly different and the bumper cover looks to have washer sprayers whereas my 08 does not. Other than these slight dissimilarities, will the parts fit?

I would say yes. Hopefully you haven't been waiting over two years for a reply. Check out my last post, and you'll get why I say "YES!".

Cars do not have platforms. They are of a platform. They can only be of one.

It was 2007 that Volvo produced both P2 & P3 V70s.

The model year, not the car, had both platforms.

But lets rephrase then: During the model year 2008 both platforms were sold. This was in the calendar year 2007 though.

Those are calendar years. They do not correspond to model years 1:1. The P3 was launched the summer 2007 as MY2008. And the P80 was still the 855 for MY96.

As another example my MY2004 was registered April 2003.
