I got a lead on a 2004 S60 which, the present owner complains, the instrument cluster goes blank while driving down the road - the speedo, etc. don'twork. Then they come back on. All while driving down the road.
I had a similar problem with my 96 850 and what it was, was the ignition switch. change that out and all was well.
Does the 04 S60 have the similar issue/similar cause/similar fix?

Indeed, do first the CEM test - flashlight see if there's water traces over the CEM box - under the dash drivers side. Xemodex $$ does it and perhaps Ebay repair services but it's not easy to remove the module (Youtube)
The DIM was mainly 01-03 and perhaps early 04 but it would not really act like that - it would go off, but not come back while driving
Also test the alternator voltage

I'm new to the S60 and just considering whether to buy one. What is a CEM? What is a DIM?

I have a 2003 V70, that based on the chassis number, was the last of the cars that utilized the ignition switch. It also doesn't have a PEM, which by P80 terms, that was the fuel pump relay.
The DIM needs to be sent out to be refloated, it's not just a simple fix. Xemodex seem to be the go to for their services. And you can't just swap the DIM, as the millage stays with the DIM

I don’t think that’s right. When the P2 chassis hit, everything went CEM and PEM for fuel deliverySupergrunged wrote: ↑18 Nov 2019, 02:26 I have a 2003 V70, that based on the chassis number, was the last of the cars that utilized the ignition switch. There are bastard P2s.... Why do you think 2001-2002 had a different throttle body then the rest? Yes, they had a CEM But everything was based off chassis numbers, not year, why the dealer asks for your VIN, to get the chassis number. The early years of Volvo P2 before the CANBUS updates in late 04-05 are a mash. Why people always say go 05+abscate wrote: ↑18 Nov 2019, 03:56I don’t think that’s right.
