2001 S-80; 2001 XC-70 Body/Door Interchange

Post by PixelDust »

My goal at the scrapyard today:

Find a Driver's Door for my 2001 XC 70 w/Silver Mystic Metallic paint code *426.

One major problem, the only matching paint code at the scrapyard was from a 2001 S-80 Sedan. I had to walk the Entire yard to find this out, apparently they don't inventory their products with the paint code in mind 🤬

No information regarding interchange on these forums, nothing on the internet entirely, the Volvo parts department closed, and the parts counter gurus with their trusty Car-Part Pro software assured me that these vehicles wouldn't match. Couldn't match, impossible, never, no way.

Well, they looked exactly the same to me. So, I measured the dimensions of the S-80 door after carrying it to the counter from deep in the yard. All the components (brackets, electrical, handles, etc) were an exact match except the door speaker.

I then went out to the parking lot, measured the XC-70, and to my delight, all measurements were exactly the same. However, to install the door trim, the speakers had to be swapped. The S-80 has a bulkier speaker housing. I suppose you could cut-it-to-fit as well. I didn't wanna hack it up, so I drilled out the rivets (really annoying, VOLVO), and made the door swap.

The door fit perfectly. The clerk at the counter gave me an excellent deal costing me only 56 REAL U.S. Pesos. He witnessed and participated in the struggle, so I think he felt bad.

All is well now, and the moral of the story, children:

P-2 S-80 Sedan Doors (front, and rear) are compatible with P-2 XC 70 Wagons. Just don't go trying to swap a Boot Lid for a Hatch 😆

On the P80s the front clip and the doors are interchangeble.
Go back and get the S80 front clip and see if this holds true for the P2s.

Front clip? Which clip are you referring to? Trim panel clips?

Front Clip: The entire front portion of the car forward of the doors. Fenders, hood, wheel wells, bumper, grill as a unit.

...or just go to Volvo web store, pull the body part section up for the XC, then click the fitment tab and look for S80

P-2 S-80 Sedan Doors (front, and rear) are compatible with P-2 XC 70 Wagons.

Correction, the rear doors are NOT the same on the S60/S80 vs V70/XC70. Good to edit the comment

I don't know... The rear doors look like they're exactly the same as well. Here's a photo of the junkyard S-80's door on my XC-70.
