V70 tailgate wobble/shake, dash light on

Post by CIK7 »

I could've sworn I saw a post about this but now I can't find it.

My tailgate dash light is on. Before I cut all factory dome lights out and installed my own, the lights would stay on if I had switch switched to 'lights on when doors open'. Anytime I'm on a bumpy road (which is 90% because Oklahoma roads are trashy), my tailgate SHAKES more than Taylor Swift. It shakes so much! I would like to know exactly what I need to do to fix this. It's irritating and I would like to find out what my alarm sounds like after it engages for first time in my ownership. I'd like a low-cost solution if possible. I can't afford much.

Three things I've heard about this: 1. There's a micro switch; some say this thing is adjustable but some say it's not. 2. The black rubber around the floor latch may have something to do with it. 3. There's a problem with sensor or wiring or something like that.

Is this on the 1998?

I wrote up a latch replacement for the 1999 with pics , I don’t remember if there was a model change. If you can’t find it, find my Nautic Blue 1999 in the maintenance forum ( link in sig) and search there

Will latch replacement solve the shaking?

It will certainly help and reduce the squeaking. There is a nylon sleeve over the pin on the latch which snugs the latch. This breaks with age as can be seen in your pictures.

If I recall the latch was relatively cheap new. Unless you find an unbroken one (unlikely) used, it is still better to replace new.

Are you referring to the floor latch part or the hatch latch part?

Does anyone know if the c/s/v70 latch and striker plates are interchangable? eBay listings aren't specific but all have same part number 9444090. I think the latches are, but I wonder if the striker plates are? They're identical across s/c70, so perhaps they are on v70?

That’s the wrong part number, that’s just the lock solenoid

Get your part numbers here

https://www.volvopartswebstore.com/show ... ct=1173081

There are differences in release operation between an S70 and a V70 but the site says it is an S70 only part

It’s pricy new, $225

If that's the s70 version, where do I buy the v70 version? And what would be the part number for the v70? If you are going to be scrapping your 99 v70, can I please get those trunk parts too?

I am talking about the part on above the bumper that the latch on the tailgate latches to as you show in your 2nd picture. So not the part that fits to the bottom of the tailgate. V70 part is not the same striker plate as S70.

Also check the side buffers are fitted and adjusted on either side of the tailgate.
