Hi, the front drivers side door on my 2006 XC90 randomly locks when I close it. No difference if it is the only door unlocked or if all doors are unlocked. Any ideas as to what is going on here?
Thanks

Yes! I'm interested as well to see what solutions come up. I've got the same problem on my 07 XC90 3.2. Seems to be random and doesn't matter if car is running or not. Also for me, if driver door is opened while engine running and after all doors are locked, it doesn't auto lock again when start driving. Not sure if that's standard or a glitch.

My 2005 XC90 2.5T with 120K recently developed a "random locking of RR door".
Went to junk yard and got another RR actuator and installed it.
Problem solved.

My 2011 XC90 is now locking the doors randomly: with key in the ignition running, when you get out and leave key in car, or when you take the key, VERY randomly. We try to always have the key in hand, but now that the temps have dropped here in the NorthEast, it would be nice to be able to go warm the car up. My husband started the car to warm it up and while running, and shut the door and the car automatically locked the whole car. We only have one key, so $218 to a locksmith and half a tank of gas we got the door open. Our one key that we got with the car has a non working fob, so not sure what is going on. Ideas?

- If the key fob is dead, then check the battery inside the key fob:
How to replace the battery 2004 volvo keyfob
- Re extra key: it is about $250 or more.
- Best is to buy a blank key on ebay for $5, then ask local locksmith to cut it for you for ? $15-$20.
This way you have a "useless" key (cannot start the engine with this useless key) inside the house with the only purpose of opening the door in an emergency.

This the specific advice I received about getting a valet key cut:
"S66NNP or NE66P brass key blank and have someone who does laser key (aka sidewinder) cuts make a key for you. You can find a locksmith who will do this "

Here is the trick...
Call some used car dealers in your area.
There are locksmith that drive around in a van that cut/program keys for these used car dealers bc some customers want 2 sets of keys
when they buy a used car.
This type of locksmith is what you want, sometimes they just cut a "dummy" key for $15-$20 or so.

Old thread alert.
You can also order the key from Volvo by VIN and not have it programmed. I think I only paid $40 for that.
Please report irregular locking events as pseudo-random, not random , events. It’s math.
