Left rear fog lamp/Multi-purpose or not?

Post by Mr. Detail »

OK, gentlemen, I may be driving myself nuts for nothing but is the socket where the left hand side, rear fog light resides, supposed to serve a dual purpose? In other words, is it a fog lamp when the switch up front is depressed and should it be a running light when the switch is not depressed?
I ask because in the same exact location on the right side there is a running light that always stays on once the car is started. Is the left side only a fog light?

Yes, there is a single rear red light fog bulb on driver's side, that is supposed to come on by pressing the fog switch. You may also have the daytime running lights that come on always as the car is running - front and rear

And if you've got DRL* then yes it's the same 5/15w bulb.

*Front and rear DRL should be mandatory everywhere. With regards from the safest country in the world to drive.

OK, here goes. The bulb that is in this spot/connector is a 7506 Osram/21W.
My question still remains, if I turn off the fog light via the switch up front, should there still be light coming from that same
location? There is light coming from the RHS in that same location but it is dark from the left side once the fog light is turned off.

So can anyone suggest a solution? I have replaced the bulb, checked all fuses, pulled the inner trim panel to get access to the rear relay panel and replaced the relay. After all of that, it still does not work. Not sure what to do next.

Measure voltage at the bulb fitting is the next step I suppose if you're sure it's the correct twin filament bulb in there.

Can anyone else verify that a 7506/21W bulb goes there?

I went out and took a few pictures, including of the world's least read book. Euro spec bulb is BA15d 21/4W. What that is in US numbers I don't know.

There is a level of inattentiveness of drivers here in the US that will astound you

DRLs mean 1/3 of drivers drive at night with no rear lights on because their dash glows
