Mute radio with remote changer, 98 S70 GLT 160,000 kms

Post by ArtCan »

We got our radio code from the only local dealer after showing proof of ownership. It worked fine twice. Our Christmas road trip saw us in an independent shop to thaw out our turbo. We hit the road as the shop closed for new year's eve, and the radio was dead. It displays OFF E when powered up, and won't accept the code. What's up? I've tried the 2+ hours of "on" key at position 1, without luck ( overnight didn't work either). The independent shop is now six road hours behind us, but took my phone call. They charged the battery, didn't boast the car, didn't touch the radio, ( but charged 2 1/2 hrs shop time to thaw the turbo). The fuses in the main fuse boxes are all okay, is there perhaps an internal radio fuse? Please help if you can, thanks!

So what's the question?
If you can't get it out of "OFF' you're screwed, it really doesn't matter what they did or did not do.
The radio MUST diplay "CODE" before you can enter it, plain and simple

Key in position 1 with all lights, etc. off in the cabin for at least 2 hours for the message to go from "off" to "code."

Oops...didn't take the tire to read the entire post. Could try key in position II but from what VADIS says, it's the same thing as position I. I would completely unplug the radio for awhile and then try all of this again.

My question was as follows. The radio displays OFF E , not simply OFF. When it displayed OFF previously, a 2 hr. shut-down and code re-entry worked fine. Nothing I've tried this time changes the OFF E display.
