Ive been dealing with a crank no start on a 2001 xc . Noticed a lot of oil on top of the block under decorative cap. Ive heard oil cap is prone to leaking. Thought I’d check my coils and plugs . When pulled plugs in cyliders 2 and3 were drenched in oil beyond threads iinto cyliders it seemed. Pulled all plugs waited over night for excess oil to drain down . I replace all plugs and still crank no start. Can someone help me

Is your gas tank less than half full? I read on here that the early 70 had a check valve in the tank and it would fail leaving the fuel pump to only pump the top half of the tank. probably not it but easy to check, as it the fuel pressure at the rail. You can use a gauge from a tool store or just see if the rail has pressure by pushing on the valve (think tire valve) and see if it squirts out. have some rags at hand.
Okay I need to check the fuel pressure I sprayed starting fluid into the air intake and it started up for a few seconds leading me to believe it it’s either the fuel pump or if your pump relay can anybody tell me where that really is located on this model I can’t seem to find it through a search

The diagnostic is to rent a fuel pressure gauge from autozone and measure the required 52 psi at the fuel rail

Ok I don’t get any fuel pressure at rail. I can hear a three second hum of fuel pump with ignition on . Does this point to the pem? I would think I’d get something if the filter were clogged. My no start happened suddenly without symptoms
