2005 Volvo S60 engine swap

Hello, I have a question about the compatibility of the 2.5t and the 2.4t engines. I had an 02 Volvo S60 2.4t and I have done several modifications to it. New coil packs, new alternator, larger turbo & intake ect ect. I recently totaled it in the rain. The power train is still in excellent condition, but the body is in too bad of condition to repair on my budget.
I have found an 05 Volvo S60 2.5t AWD with a blown engine. The transmission is in good condition too. My question is will I be able to do an engine swap with these two vehicles? I really loved my Volvo, I also have wanted the AWD version. I have invested quite a bit into my wrecked Volvo and plan on removing and adding parts of my suspension to the 05 as well. Will I be able to do all of this?

There are a ton different parts from an 05 than what's in 02 that would make the computer go nuts (for example, the throttle body), a change which started in 05, so you're really looking at an 01-04 S60. Then you would need to figure out the issue with the computers to make sure they're compatible.

In my opinion, you are messing with 2 f***ed up cars, past their prime, and damaged to the point where it seems like a good idea to just junk the thing and get something that's in one piece. If a swap comes out to a grand, then fine, otherwise if you really like Volvo so much then just lookout for the 07 V70 or an 09 S60. A lot of issues should be ironed out at that point, and would actually be worth the 5 grad or whatever so you can enjoy it for a lot longer.

Again, I ain't a pro, just my opinion. More qualified people should fill you in; hell, ask your local independent Volvo mech for help.

Oh no, I was hoping for a better outcome. I’ve invested quite a bit in the motor and suspension. Don’t really want to junk it. Was hoping to put it in something. I’ve had the car for a few years, and have gradually gotten it where I wanted it. It’s been a great car, good sleeper esp with the upgraded turbo, intake, suspension, ect. I hope there is more advice out there. But, thanks for your input though. Have a great day.

2.4T will run rich and throw an intake VVT error. You can transfer most of your new 2.4T parts into a 2.5T engine. 2.5T is more common and they are plenty on JYs.

Ok thanks, now that's finally some good news. Will definitely be looking into rebuilding 2.5 with the 2.4.
