You shouldn't have to remove the assembly. It should be as easy as replacing the stock bulbs, except it goes into the projector housing rather than reflector.

Here in Australia retrofitting HIDs is difficult as the design rules state headlights must be self levelling and headlight washing features must be fitted to headlights with +2000 lumen output.
Question; Is it worth fitting projectors with halogen or led bulbs? Vehicle is a 2001 S80, problem is rural Australian roads where good cutoff is required to illuminate sides of roads to identify suicidal kangaroos, as well as an improved high beam. Car will be in use by my kids for the next few years. Alternative is to acquire a newer car with HID and projectors, but that is a pricey option.

Did the retro-fit for under around $60... $28 Projectors and $29 35w HID. I’m worried about light output... has anyone used 55w in these cheap projectors? Could it be a fire hazard? Also; as a result of the cheap projectors mine didn’t come with screws to attatch the shrowd. Did anyone else experience this?

Would it be possible to cite some part numbers please?
I found lots of projectors, but not enough answers...

Those who say, "Money can't buy happiness", obviously never bought a turbo charged car, or paid a pet adoption fee!

Lots of these online. My source was CBX from aliexpress for the 2.5" projector and shroud [https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1017182941.html] although if I was to redo it today there I would consider looking at some of the aliexpress bi-LED projectors (they are pricey though - don't buy the cheap ones). these are COB's with an electro mechanical cutoff shield much like bixenon just the light source is led and not HID. Haven't tried them out but they seem interesting for lower power usage and less heat.
For reference here is and example of the led version [https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000349770453.html]
