"Anti-skid Temporarily Off" Message 2004 S80

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

"Anti-skid Temporarily Off" Message 2004 S80

Post by Knucklehead »

My S80 is dead in the water. When I first tried to start it, it ran for a few seconds and then died. Now it turns over but won't start at all. I'm getting a message - "Anti-skid Temporarily Off". This is not the first time that this has happened. The last time, the dealer hauled it in and told me there was nothing wrong with it. Of course, it had started when it arrived at the dealer.

Does anyone know what the problem is?

Thanks,

Knucklehead

It means the Dstc was temporarily turned off by your car for whatever reason. I wouldn't think your no-start condition is related. However, it could be a general computer glitch...displaying the message as well as not allowing your car to start. Is your car still under warranty?

Thanks for your reply. Yes; thank goodness, it's still got about 2 months left under warranty. They will pick it up in an hour. I hope they find the glitch and fix it permanently this time.

did you ever figure this out? If so, what was it, and was the no-start related to the message? I ask because I have a similar problem, but the message is "anti-skid service required" and the car won't stay running. If I crank again, it won't catch, but if I remove the key, it starts and won't stay running. My tech says that the memory on the CEM is being erased and thinks - ,maybe - that replacing the ABS module will do the trick, but that's a very expensive maybe. Advice?

This happened again in July and the diagnosis was a bad sensor in the brake pedal. So far, so good since the sensor was replaced, but the car hasn't been driven much since then.

By July, the car was out of warranty but Volvo treated this as a warranty repair (as they should have).

What did they do the first time to fix the problem until July?
