odometer question (accuracy)

Post by vovo850 »

Long ago when I bought my volvo, I had to do the odometer gear repair.
It has worked since more or less.
I don't believe it is accurate though. I have to keep mileage for a job I do
and if I switch between vehicles I notice a mileage discrepancy on the volvo.
Sometimes but not always.
example sometimes it will correct report 14.6 and than on another trip it might only show 13.9
re-reading back thru the odometer fix thread I didn't really see anyone bring this up. So I'm not sure what the deal is. Did I not seat something properly way back when? Is it breaking again?

The odometer can fail again. I have had to make several repairs to my 240 series Volvos. Your 1995 is now near 25 years old and plastic parts can break. Take the odometer out and look it over closely. Maybe you can see the problem. Sometimes they only work part of the time. They seem to have more trouble turning over the hundreds and thousand numbers because of more torque. I recall odometergears.com has several repair parts - not just one gear.

I'm pretty sure but it's been 10 years that I replaced both gears back than.
So those gears from odometergears can break again?

Sure, everything breaks - even Volvos.

well that's a good place to look if and when I take it apart.
Our roads suck, the struts were neglected for too long so it's something to look at.
While I know everything breaks, odometergear bills their replacement as a permanent fix, which was why I asked.
If someone else had their gears fail than it would be a good thing to order before I take it apart.
The oem would have lasted longer than their "permanent fix"
