So I thought I found valves but in checking the volvo web site it shows part number 9471466 for both turbo and non turbo. So is everyone sure the 850 turbos did in fact come with there own sodium filled valves? Seems very much like I'm on a snipe hunt for sodium filled valves for these things. No part listing state sodium filled. Even on fcp

And exh valve for 850R turbo (if correct info)

Thanks volvolugnut. Looked at those places already too. Nothing special about the turbo exhaust valves still the same part number as non turbos. The 9471466's so I'm beginning to think all this hype about turbos having sodium filled valves is bunk.. At least with the 850's
Looking at Intervalves replacements now. Heat treated hardened stainless. $254 a set of 10

Fir the 1999 models, IPD list the turbo models as sodium filled.

The IPD sodium valve above is 6mm dia. Earlier post seems to indicate 7mm is needed. I don't know which is needed, but noticed the difference.

Just order them after the teardown, as they are stock items and the head will be in the shop for evaluation and planing for a week or two anyhow. When you have done 100 head jobs, you can think of doing them on a weekend schedule but we amateurs have to move more slowly and deliberately.

I pulled up my 1999 for that ad as I knew it had the sodium valves, your 1997 may well be different. The IPD sodium valve above is 6mm dia. Earlier post seems to indicate 7mm is needed. I don't know which is needed, but noticed the difference.
Current status, unresolved - the current attached photo from Volvo webstore isnt awe inspiring as I know there was a valve stem size change in 1999 but that picture implies one part number fits all VINS 1995-2005.So is everyone sure the 850 turbos did in fact come with there own sodium filled valves?

I may be optimistic trying to do it all in one weekend but without parts, I can't at all. This is nothing new to me. Pulled and rebuilt a pair of toyota 3vze v6 heads and back on in 2 days total. I was busting ass and worked long hours. Because it was my rural mail delivery vehicle.
Is there any opinions on the intervalves company valves?

Maybe try to get a read on the head jobs here to figure out what your out-plane probability is.
That is a lot of labour to guess, but we all have different risk tolerances, respect.
Ill SWAG it at 30-70 bad odds for an engine with some abuse.
