Of I had $1 for everytime I did a repair on a car that had supposedly been done recently, or by a 'professional' using OE parts I could probably have bought a new car by now. Last 3 x P80's have had close to $3000 needed done on them to get to stage 0. The 2000 'R' I stopped counting once Morty of $20000. I have now removed most of the crap aftermarket parts.
Having said that, the Motorad thermostat is not a bad part but sounds like the installer was!!

Local Volvo dealer advised replacing OE thermostat ever 3 years along with coolant.

You have done an amazing learning curve so be proud of yourself!

Yeah it adds up... but damn, I'm only around $3,500-$4k into my 2000 R and that includes the purchase price, manual swap, and a do88 intercooler. I complain about it, but I've managed to keep it pretty cheap while using OEM if not even better parts!

Thanks for all the compliments. Means a lot to me, especially when I'm self taught solely by material on this forum and Robert's youtube videos.

It's become very apparent that the PO was a hack shade tree mechanic (but aren't we all sometimes). Still, I hate being lied to, and there's no reason to lie about a high mileage $1500 car. He replaced the cam seals, put the sprockets on backwards (so no timing marks), replaced the water pump with Aisin, but ignored the failing tensioner. Still wondering what fuel pump he put in (wines like mad).

Happy to report cooling leaks seam to be fixed. Cooling system actually still held pressure after sitting for 2 days. Before it would be depressurized after sitting for 2-3 hours. Took forever to get all the air out of the system, was scared I may have overheated it while trying to bleed the air out. Steam was coming off the head, but ambient temp outside was below freezing. Hopefully didn't hurt anything. Bought a Vernet 87C thermostat to replace the Motorad when I swap in the silicone rad hoses. Hopefully makes bleeding the air out easier.

I’m spending the next three months mostly upstate NY, are you close enough to me for that clutch job?

I have another one coming up so the skill set needs honing,

Did you ditch one of the cars?

Unfortunately, upstate NY would be a bit of a trek for me, but I have been looking for a vacation.

The AWD I wrecked is currently being stored indefinitely at a family friend's 'junk' yard.

Got one of the 1998, Ill ask Sonic if/when it was replaced.

I might have a spare runner car from Carlos up and going in Spring, welcome to come bang on cars if you come east I come to ROC and BUF regularly, so CLE is only 3 hours away for the car tag game.

Will certainly consider the trip. Only big issue I see delaying the whole project is getting the flywheel resurfaced. Local machinist said he's so backed up it would take 3 weeks for him to get to it once I brought it to him.
