Gas pump shutting off before tank full - 99 s70 na

Gas pump shutting off before tank full - 99 s70 na

Hi all,

I just tried to fill my gas tank and it kept shutting the pump off after about 3-4 seconds of pumping. I haven't filled the car in a couple weeks as i recently had the car out of service taking the whole engine apart and putting it back together.

Probably more importantly, yesterday I pulled and replaced this broken portion of hose behind my fuel filter. Both sides of this hose looked like this. Any chance that this could've causes this?

Reading about others' problems it seems like people's carbon canisters get blocked and don't allow enough air out. Im assuming that's what this black box is, has anyone else ever had to clear this out?

That’s the canister shut off valve with the broken hose. It might be broken on the air side which won’t affect much. The rectangular black box is the carbon canister

Your fuel tank issue is caused by a bad head gasket, though.

There’s a small opening on the bottom of the filler
spout that detects fuel when it gets high enough
and automatically releases the handle latch.

Sometimes, pulling the nozzle back out of the
car’s filler neck just a little will prevent this feature
from shutting off the fuel pump’s valve prematurely.
Generally, just one nozzle spring “notch” will do.

Abscate did you really mean a bad head gasket? Don't fuel fill issues relate to the EVAP system and venting the tank when filling?
