1999 Volvo V70R Phase 3

Post by ethanm1 »

Hey, this could be a long shot but i'm really looking for some help..I'm currently looking into a 1999 Volvo V70R Phase 3 in the Lazer Blue color. He is asking $5000 CAD but willing to do $4000 as the tires are shot. I really like this car but it's got some issues and I need answers on if I should pay that much for it. First, body is in mint condition, paint is good, interior is good as well. Motor seems to run good, will need a fluid flush, etc but here's the issues, It just rolled over 200,000 kilometers and he says where he bought the car claims timing belt was done at 150k but no proof so he doesn't wanna promise that. There's an issue with the fuel pump he claims as the previous owner installed it at an angel and messed it up and you can't fill it up 3/4 full or it will leak and also when the car is down to low on fuel it starts to surge the last issue with the fuel pump is the previous owner tried to short cut the process and tore up the back of the car but it's not terrible and can be put back together. It's not inspected and has been sitting for a year. Is $4000 CAD to much to pay for this?

Yes. People who don’t know these cars will do thousands of dollars of damage to them trying to repair them

Yes. Too much. I'd pay maybe up to $1800 and plan on up to 100 hours and $1000+ to get it decent.

You really, really have to want a P80 R Laser Blue car to buy that. And be good with a wrench, and want to do research.

There's better ones out there. You'll find one if you look.

For that much and mileage (kilometerage?), it shouldn’t need much. If I really really wanted it, I don’t think I’d go higher than $2000, but Rs are rare in South Louisiana, of any kind.

It’s 1000 USD to move a car anywhere in North America

You need a 5000-10,000 budget to put an R into good daily driver shape; something like 5k to buy it and 5k for refurb.

It can be 2x that, as you will find examples here.
