Snow chains on an XC90?
In the last week on January I will be traveling to snow country. Does anyone put chains on their XC90? If so, front or rear? I suspect it's rare to need them but I'm thinking of those literal blizzards you may be caught in. Then again, a little weather wisdom would hopefully prevent that.

If you need chains, it is way past time to get off the road.

Wow, in the late 80's a trip to Lake Tahoe when it snowed would usually require chains but then again when the chains came out the trip took double or triple the amount of time most of it not movingRickHaleParker wrote: ↑01 Jan 2020, 15:44 If you need chains, it is way past time to get off the road.

I'm not sure if snow chains are still used in the US, but these are still popular in Europe. I've never used these - we put snow tires here, but for having used snow tires in front and 'all season' in the rear, after a few spins in the middle of the highway I would advise against it. Chains/snow tires on all wheels.

It has been decades since I used snow chains. These days, if I can get around local roads with all season tires, I just stay home. Gee, that really makes me sound old.

Since there hasn't been an answer posted, I'll put one forward:
From the manual:
All Wheel Drive models: Snow chains should only be installed on the front wheels. Only chains adapted for AWD
models should be used.
From personal experience:
I have put on the chains more than a few times. I haven't bothered with "adapted for AWD", just found the ones that matched tire size. No problems.
If you had FWD, you'd want to do the same - put them on the forward tires.
