Tiny project I need to get to because I find it endlessly annoying: My driver's side wiper has jumped splines or something and gone out of sync, causing it to sit higher than it should when parked and it annoyingly hits the A pillar molding every wipe. I've tried to find some posts on this but didn't turn up much. I'm assuming I have to pry that dust cap off somehow and there's a bolt underneath, but I can't seam to get the cap off? Are these splined wipers, or are they just friction mounted via tension from the nut? Once I get the nut off, will I have to pull the wiper off to reposition it, or, if it's a friction mount, do I just have to loosen the nut and reposition the wiper?

If you own enough Volvos that 10,000 hours thing happens pretty quickly.

It’s a lot easier making a sharpie reference mark to work from on this job.

Cap pops off.

Grease splines

Relighten m6, not too tight

Pop,cap back in.

Just to add detail: the cap is lifted at the round edge and pivots at the wiper end. Then the cap lifts off. If your splines seem completely smooth, you could add a drop of thread lock or super glue to the spline surface.

Well... it's been a rough few weeks. In short, I hit a deer at 45mph in a freak and totally unavoidable accident. But never fear, my beloved T5 still lives... she just looks a bit different. I'll try and get the pics off my phone later. Damage report: Hood, driver's side fender and lights, a steel wheel, the fiberglass rad support thing, and the bracket that holds the bumper to the fender. If anyone's got anything for sale or to donate, send me a PM. Car is stone black 019.

In other news: Replaced the entire front suspension. New control arms, sway bar links, and tie rods all in the Meyle and Meyle HD flavor, and mostly new Sachs struts with the XC90 bushings. Car drives and handle's so much better now. Steering is no longer vague and car no longer snakes its way down the road. Shows all those alignment shops that said my steering gear was bad and new tie rods wouldn't fix the problem. Nothing I pulled off was really that bad other than the struts (blown) and the control arms (boots ripped). All the ball joints still felt okay, but they certainly weren't like new. Feels like it might have been worth the 50+ hours of work. Yes I said 50 plus hours. Nothing wanted to come off, making this relatively simple job on paper take forever. Went through 1 bottle of propane, 3 bottles of penetrating oil, and 2 grinding disks. Those parts had definitely been on there for a while.

I’ve got all those metal parts in stone black 019. Pm me your location and let’s see if we cam make logistics work. I can harvest the fiberglass thing too.

Each part At Harry’s price plus one hour of journeyman labor at $25, plus delivery, minus accomadations, and a discount for each Oxford comma, semicolon, or using the word syzygy in a sentence.

Since I left everyone hanging, here are some pics:

I ended up grabbing the dinged up and rusty fender off my '99 parts car. Sourced the fiberglass rad support semi-locally, but ended up using JB plastic weld putty to hold mine together after seeing how much work it was to swap (junkyard car was already relived of everything in the engine bay: easy grab). Took the hood off and got mad at it with a 15lb sledge until it would close with a driver's side headlight installed. bumper bracket is till broken, but everything is back together to a depressingly satisfactory degree.

Thank you abscate. I haven't been ignoring you, just been very busy. I will PM you when life gets a little less hectic and see if we can work out getting those body panels and doing the clutch job all in one go.

That damage doesn't look too bad, fortunately. Easy enough to fix, just time consuming taking apart the front end to replace that radiator support!
