Howdy,

I was under the car checking things out and noticed that the shift linkage next to the transmission has a lot of play front to back. Should it be solid or have play?

My shifter in the car shifts into every year fine, but there is about an inch of play in it also.

It should be tight. The plastic shift linkage bushing are worn out. Not uncommon for a car 15+ years old. Install some new bushings and the slop in the will be history.
